Regular activities and outreach

Morning tea and get together follow every celebration of the Eucharist, including on Thursday mornings, giving everyone a chance to meet informally and welcome new members.  Parishioners of St James and nearby All Saints, Northcote also gather together for a pub lunch every two months.

St James' parishioners are involved in outreach activities throughout the year.  Regular activities include collecting food for the Anglicare food relief service at All Saints, Preston and stamps for the fund raising activities by the Anglican Board of Missions.

In winter we serve home-made soup after church once a month to raise money for Anglicare.

Every month we collect cooking oil for refugees.

For several years St James parishioners have visited local nursing homes at Christmas to sing carols to residents.

Fr Andrew also conducts services at local nursing and aged care homes, including regular services at the Veronica Gardens and Ruckers Hill aged care facilities.

We participate in Australia's Biggest Morning Tea with a cake auction and special morning tea to raise funds for cancer research.

We also operate a lay chaplaincy service visiting parishioners who can no longer get along to church.

Our church fete is run in conjunction with a display by the Blue Gum Quilters, who meet in our hall to produce beautiful hand-made quilts.
